Saturday’s wedding was incredible.  Kate and Chris were one of the most fabulous couples that I have worked with.  While, I had never met them until Saturday, I felt like I was hanging out with old friends.  Kate had found me through Style Me Pretty over a year ago and due to our geographical locations we were never able to meet. From our first phone call, I knew we were on the same page.  We had an instant connection of what each was looking for and able to produce on the wedding day.

Selecting your wedding photographer is so much more than liking the pictures and fitting into a budget.  Selecting your photographer should be based on the connection as well. For me, during my initial phone call or meeting with a bride, I love to get a sense of who she is, who they are as a couple and what their plans are for the wedding day.  Yes, the couple is interviewing me, but I am interviewing them as well.

Having trust in my clients to allow me to produce the photographs I have been hired to capture is the same trust they need to have in me to produce those images.  I often hear from members of the bridal party – “our photographer was terrible” or ” I wish I would have known about you… we didn’t get along with our photographer” those words are heartbreaking to hear.

I am a firm believer that there is the right photographer for every couple and the right couple for every photographer.  I know that I am not everyone’s cup of tea and I am okay with that.  In fact, I prefer not to be for everyone, just those who want amazing images and trust me and allow me the time to make it happen.

Some of the most incredible images I have ever captured were crazy ideas that my couple allowed me to try and they trusted me.

Here is one of my personal favorites from Saturday, more to follow:

Happy Monday Morning!

What a fantastic weekend we had!  The weather here on the east coast was wonderful and so fall like. We enjoyed a weekend of football (though our teams weren’t victorious!) and never ending house work.  We are just about finished with the house re-modeling project (can’t wait to share photos of the finished product!).  I am very excited to say that the new meeting space will be done soon.  The final coats of paint went on the walls while I was in Mexico and the framed prints should be ready for installation within the next two weeks!

I am still having a hard time believing it is November already and the holiday commercials are in full swing!  Thanksgiving is just a few shorts weeks away followed by Christmas!  For those of you who would like canvases, prints and holiday cards get your orders in ASAP!  December 1st is going to be the deadline for all prints!

We also picked up a new member of the family this week.  For those of you who don’t know, we lost our great dane, Turk to cancer about 3 weeks ago. Loosing him has been really rough on Patrick and I. It is amazing to me, how attached you become to a pet.  We had planned to wait until we finished with our house before getting another puppy. Needless to say, we couldn’t wait.

We picked up a sweet and oh-so-lovable 10 week old blue Great Dane puppy Thursday evening.  He is going to be such a big boy and we are so excited to have him as part of our family.

I spent a few minutes with JAX this afternoon photographing him in my new gallery/shooting space.

Last Friday, I had to the pleasure of speaking to about 100 students at a local highschool.  My nerves were high, as I am more of a behind the scenes kinda gal.  I love sharing about my photography experiences, the road might not always be smooth or the most traveled, but I love what I do.

While I had been preparing for the presentation for about two weeks, I knew I would be working on the slideshow and final details up until the very last minute.

I thought I would share the slideshow from the presentation!

Enjoy!

Yesterday, I spent most of the day gathering our camera equipment, charging batteries, organizing bags and checking off the travel list.  Thursday evening we leave for Puerto Rico to photograph Jill and Marcus’ wedding and I couldn’t be more excited.  I spent more of the day focusing on the photo gear and today focused on wardrobe packing.  I did some sho-packing (my new term for shopping and packing for trips… shop and pack) over the past few weeks and have a lot of the wardrobe already selected and put together.

We will be out of the office until next Tuesday and I will be without phone and email during the trip.  We will be in touch Tuesday once we return.

I also played with a new lens I am considering purchasing.  It isn’t the first time I have rented a 50mm 1.2L lens, but I am still not 100% sold.  I am hoping this wedding will seal the deal and I will be placing an order next week.   A special thanks to Turk for being a model this afternoon while I played with the lens.
