Veteran’s Day

November 11th (Veteran’s Day)  is always a very special day for our family. My grandfather was one of 5 sons who each served in a different branch of the military. Thankfully for our family each one of them came back from war safely, many others aren’t as lucky to say that.  My grandfather never spoke much about his time of service, a little here or there, but on the day of his funeral a letter was read that changed my life.  The letter was a detailed encounter of what he experienced during his time in Germany. It was the first time I ever heard about the war from his point of view.

He was proud to serve our country.  I remember a few years ago taking a trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. and watching people come up to him and shake his hand and thank him.   It was an amazing experience to witness and something that I will truly never forget.

Below is a photograph taken of my grandfather in either Belgim or France (I don’t have the original so I can’t recall dates and locations, but I am pretty sure I am right on the geographics)

Thank you to my grandfather, his brothers, and all who have served and who are serving!  You make us proud everyday!

Kath - He was one of the proudest Americans I have ever known. I will NEVER forget him saluting his brother Ralph at Ralph’s funeral. It was the recreation of a very special moment in their lives. I hope you know that story. I really miss them both …
